These terms explain what Hospital Bed Exchange does, and the responsibilities of everyone who uses our free matching program.
Effective date: July 27, 2026
Welcome to Hospital Bed Exchange, a national outreach program of Fair Lawn Medical Equipment Gemach (operating as Fair Lawn Gemach Corp), a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. By using this website and submitting a donation offer or a bed request, you agree to these Terms of Service. If you do not agree, please do not use the site.
You must be at least 18 years old to use Hospital Bed Exchange. By submitting a donation offer or a bed request, you represent that you are 18 or older.
Hospital Bed Exchange is a free service that helps connect a person who wishes to give away a hospital bed with a person who needs one, generally within about 50 miles of each other. We are an introducer, not a supplier. We do not buy, sell, own, store, inspect, repair, deliver, or take possession of any bed. Once we identify a match, the donor and recipient arrange the exchange directly between themselves.
There is never a fee to donate or to receive a bed through our program. Beds are given away by donors as charitable gifts. The only cost involved is transportation, which is the recipient's responsibility (see below).
Beds are provided by private donors "as is," without any warranty of any kind. We do not inspect, test, service, or certify any bed, mattress, or component. Donors are asked to confirm that the equipment is clean and in good, safe working order to the best of their knowledge, but we cannot and do not guarantee the condition, safety, cleanliness, or suitability of any bed for any purpose. As the recipient, you are solely responsible for inspecting a bed and confirming it is safe and appropriate before use.
Nothing on this site is medical advice. A hospital bed is durable medical equipment, and whether a particular bed is appropriate for a patient's needs is a decision for you and your healthcare providers. Please consult a qualified professional.
The recipient is responsible for arranging and paying for pickup and delivery, including hiring a licensed, professional mover where appropriate. Where we mention a moving partner, that company is independent; any arrangement and payment is strictly between you and that company.
You understand that donating, receiving, transporting, and using a hospital bed involves inherent risks, and you assume those risks. To the fullest extent permitted by law, Fair Lawn Medical Equipment Gemach, Fair Lawn Gemach Corp, and their volunteers, staff, and representatives are not liable for any injury, illness, loss, or damage arising from a bed, its condition, its transport, its use, or any interaction between a donor and a recipient. Our role is limited to introducing two parties, and we are not a party to the transfer or use of any bed.
The site and the matching service are provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied. We do not warrant that a match will be found, or that any bed will meet your needs.
You may withdraw a donation offer or a bed request at any time by contacting us. We will mark it inactive.
We may modify or discontinue the service, or update these Terms, at any time. When we update these Terms we will revise the effective date above. Continued use of the site means you accept the current Terms.
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of New Jersey, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules.
